E-learning expert Richard Taylor has founded The Spotlite Learning Consultancy in a bid to help corporates overcome barriers to the effective use of learning technologies in the UK.

Taylor
told e.learning age that he launched the consultancy in response to the findings of the latest Towards Maturity Benchmark Report. The Benchmark report found that only a small minority of learning and development (L&D) departments made effective use of learning technologies and correctly aligned their L&D strategy to their operational strategy.

Around two thirds of L&D departments said they lacked the skills, knowledge and confidence to implement learning technologies, and over 70% said they lacked the instructional design skills to develop e-learning content in-house.

The Spotlite Learning Consultancy aims to address this skills gap with a series of master classes in instructional design and the effective use of learning technologies.

T
he consultancy marks Taylor’s return to the UK e-learning scene after several years of living and working abroad. He was founder of Creative Learning Media and winner of the inaugural E-Learning Awards outstanding achievement award in 2005.

Taylor
said: “There is a well-known saying that if you give someone a fish they can eat for a day, but if you teach someone to fish they can eat for the rest of their life. We intend to plug the skills gap in the UK so every company can benefit from the long-term savings and improved performance that the effective use of learning technologies can deliver.”

The Spotlite Learning Consultancy is giving away over £25000 worth of courses to the first people who register on their website
