The Safeguarding Children e-Academy has added to its existing stable of e-learning courses and extended its remit to incorporate adult social care training.
The academy, which delivers interactive online learning for the children’s workforce, believes there are many similarities in the training requirement for adult social care teams. The law requires people working with vulnerable adults to receive specialist training in a number of areas and the e-Academy now offers courses on Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults to meet the requirements of the Mental Capacity Act, which protects people who are unable to make some decisions for themselves.
Abby Dacres, Safeguarding Children e-Academy manager, said: “People working with vulnerable adults often need to have an awareness of issues relating to children in the family they are dealing with – and it is important to remember that vulnerable children can often become vulnerable adults. Whether learners taking our safeguarding courses work with adults or children, the messages are very similar. It’s all about creating a safe environment through good practice and having the confidence to know what to do in response to particular concerns.”
The Safeguarding Children e-Academy has also supplemented its established Integrated Working basic awareness courses with the introduction of two further courses – Information Sharing Level 2 and Contact Point Level 2.
Dacres said: “Every local authority in the country now has a duty to ensure that all staff who access and record information about children should follow recognised procedures. Responsible recording and sharing of information is key to achieving best practice and our new courses build on our existing Integrated Working module.”
