As part of its strategy to improve overall business performance BT Global Services has signed an agreement with The Projects Group (TPG) for the delivery of its online Knowledgebase. BT Global sees the Knowledgebase as an important element in supporting its organisation wide drive for training and competence. It will give around 2,500 project and programme managers access to the e-learning resources needed to gain formal accreditations and for self development.
Staff across the BT Global Services organisation, including Europe, USA, South America and Japan, can access learning materials for all levels of international qualifications, from two day to two year certification courses. Around 700 PRINCE2 and MSP accreditations are expected to be achieved through the system by the end of the first quarter 2010. An online ‘certification readiness test’ ensures that those put forward for exams are ready to pass them.
However BT Global Services believes that competence is about more than achieving formal qualifications and the Knowledgebase also includes scope for informal learning through articles, case studies and papers for staff to read and benefit from on an ongoing basis.
Graham Hartridge, Project Manager for BT Global Services, said: “We needed to ensure that our whole project and programme management community had access to the skills and accreditations relevant to their roles. In the past, this would have entailed personnel taking blocks of time out of the office for training. TPG’s blended learning approach has made learning a part of our workplace, making professional accreditation an attainable goal for even the busiest individuals.”
