The World Bank has improved its ability to deliver learning to 10,000 global staff by installing TopClass, a learning management system from WBT Systems.

Knowledge and learning is one of six strategic priorities at the World Bank. After introducing a number of learning initiatives, the bank realised it needed a learning management system to manage, administer, track and monitor training. Following a competitive tender, the TopClass system was selected to help the Bank achieve its goal and move towards blended learning.

The learning management system acts as a single source for all learning across the bank and is accessed, regardless of location, via a single interface. It includes an online catalogue of 600 courses and is integrated with the bank’s HR and financial systems using Business Objects.

The system’s reporting capability provides managers with training statistics and data, allowing the bank to monitor and assess investments in learning. This is central to the bank’s mission to ensure that staff are equipped to assist clients in addressing their development challenges with the best global knowledge available.

Paul Dooley, chief executive officer of WBT Systems, commented: “The success of the World Bank’s enterprise learning initiative is another example of the power and flexibility of the TopClass solution being brought to bear to improve learning at a global organisation.”
