777 Virtual aircraft

To gain CAA certification to work on different aircraft types, British Airways Cabin Crew need practical onboard training. They often have to wait long periods for an aircraft type to become available in engineering to complete this aspect of training. Small variations in the design of each individual aircraft also mean the crew does not always get to view these variants first hand.

LINE Communications created a virtual aircraft program to give a sense of the size and dimensions of the Boeing 777. It consists of a virtual environment which links 360o panoramic images and embedded video assets, and is used alongside classroom training.

The creation and release of the 777 Virtual Aircraft Visit has bought significant benefits:

The creation and release of the 777 Virtual Aircraft Visit has bought significant benefits:
  • A saving of £984,000 a year on training costs, downtime of crew, travel and security.
  • Crew now have exposure to all variants of the aircraft before flight.
  • The modular design means additional assets from new aircraft can be easily slotted into place, quickly and inexpensively.

More with less

Care Management Group’s Fulfilling Potential has shown how e-learning can be enthusiastically adopted within a people-focused working environment, and can give rapid and significant business impact. Costs of both training staff and covering them while training have been cut considerably, realising large savings for the company. The evidence speaks for itself:

  • Fulfilling Potential has cut costs by approximately 90%, and is already saving CMG over £300,000 per year (from the initial six modules alone)
  • The comparative cost of training for a single course has reduced by approximately £57,000 per module
  • The huge impact on staff can be seen by the fact that Fulfilling Potential is on target to achieve 100% completion of all modules
  • This adoption of e-learning is delivering business benefits by improving efficiency, reducing costs, reducing risk and improving service quality.

Going electronic

Sandwell Primary Care Trust is giving healthcare support to 250,000 people – and the demands are altering the skills needed by Sandwell’s 1,400 staff, who are distributed across several sites.

Adam J Turner, head of learning and development at Sandwell Primary Care Trust (PCT), said: “We needed a learning management system  (LMS) to serve the needs of Sandwell PCT today, and adapt to the challenges of tomorrow”.

In just one year, Sandwell PCT moved from using Excel spreadsheets and paper-based record administrative systems to rolling out the self-service booking functionality and e-learning platform across the organisation. Ikonami’s AT-Learning web-based LMS underpinned change in processes and culture.

Sandwell PCT is now using the data to engage the organisation in providing the value-added workforce information reports and future skills’ planning that is central to future L&D activity. In the past 12 months of implementation, the system has managed more than 30,266 total bookings, and of these over 44.9% (13,595) were self service.
